THE BEACON

A word from Paster Phil and Debbie...

As I Ponder…

The month of July is beginning as the lazy, hazy days of summer with long hot days and sultry nights. That sure reminds me of Vacation Bible School. We will begin our week together on Sunday morning, July 17th with special times for our services this Sunday. We will have our Morning Worship Service at 10:00 A.M., followed by a special program at 11:00, to kick off our V.B.S. Week.  Pop ‘n Ministries from Summersville will have a special presentation.  Remember to invite all of your friends and to get up early for our worship service. I hope you are excited and filled with anticipation as we look forward to what God has in store for us.

I would also like everyone to be much in prayer concerning the potential of our adding onto the church facilities to better serve the needs of congregation. We have somewhat different ideas of what we want, if anything at all, but with prayer and humility on our part God’s direction will be clear to us.

July also finds us starting a new Bible Study on the lives of the disciples.  In addition to the Bible we will use the book “Twelve Ordinary Men” by John MacArthur I hope you will sacrifice your time  to come and study these ordinary men like us who were used greatly through the power of God. Will you come and find out how you may better be used?

Once again Debbie and I rejoice in being your fellow servants and joint-heirs with Christ. May you seek to be your best for Him to receive the best from Him!

Past Ponders...

As I Ponder…

I am not sure how we should define success. The dictionary says that success is “satisfactory completion of something or gaining of wealth and fame”. In the Christian mindset success may be better defined as anything bringing glory to God. Maybe you have a better definition. Whatever the case I believe our recently completed Vacation Bible School should be considered a victory for the Lord. I would like to thank all those who helped with this ministry in any way and pray that God has helped you become champions for God. I have many personal stories in my heart from this week, but will share one I was told. A young lady came forward to accept Christ, and when asked her phone stated her parents had told her never to give it to strangers, but she thought this was for a good cause and it would be all right. Yes, a good cause indeed!

The month of August brings us near the end of summer and many will get away for another vacation or long weekend before school starts. On Sunday, August 22nd we will gather at Cedar Creek State Park after morning worship for our annual church picnic. I am looking forward to great things in the months ahead and pray that we work as a team to win the victories for Christ. I hope our focus remains true to the course Jesus has set for us, thinking more of others than we do ourselves.

I would also like to announce our fall revival beginning Sunday, September 12th thru Thursday the 16th with John Young from Ohio as our evangelist. Mark these dates on your calendar and begin praying for this outreach now.

How are the Barnabas Groups doing? We haven’t talked about this in quite some time and this ministry is very important. Let us stay the course with this small group concept.

Debbie and I will be on vacation from July 31st until August 7th, and we ask that you pray for us as we travel and seek a little time of renewal. We love each one of you and always pray for God to bless you as you serve Him.
