School Mission Statement

It is the mission of Sand Fork Elementary School to:

Ø      Teach all students to achieve and learn to their fullest potential in academics, human relationships and civic responsibilities,

Ø      Encourage staff and students to maintain high levels of expectations,

Ø      Create an atmosphere of positive interaction and communication among parents, staff, students, and community,

Ø      Provide skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to be contributing citizens and lifelong learners in an interdependent, diverse, and technologically complex world.

 

School Philosophy

The philosophy of Sand Fork Elementary School is to provide every student with high quality developmentally appropriate educational opportunities in an atmosphere of respect.

Ø      The school staff will make every effort to offer a program of excellence.

Ø      The school will promote the idea that all students can and will learn.  A prescribed level of mastery will be expected in all subjects with emphasis on basic skills.

Ø      The school will make every effort to meet curriculum expectations set by the West Virginia State Department of Education and the Gilmer County Board of Education.  In addition, school goals and classroom goals will be developed and implemented in the best interest of Sand Fork Elementary students.

Ø      The school will provide programs to meet the needs and interests of students in human relationships, civic responsibility, and economic efficiency skills.  Staff members will make every effort to use all the resources available to meet student needs and interests.

Ø      The school will offer a variety of extracurricular activities that will enhance the overall abilities of students.  The curricular and extracurricular programs will be designed to develop each individual student to his or her fullest potential.

 

School Goals

The staff of Sand Fork Elementary will strive to:

Ø      Increase standardized test scores at all grade levels to exceed state requirements,

Ø      Increase the number of students prepared for kindergarten,

Ø      Improve reading skills of all students,

Ø      Use innovative and effective teaching strategies in the classroom,

Ø      Increase parent and community involvement,

Ø      Improve the self-esteem of our students,

Ø      Increase exposure to the fine arts,

Ø      Increase the number of students meeting the President’s Physical Fitness Standards and other national standards,

Ø      Utilize educational technology effectively in all classrooms,

Ø      Improve facilities and school climate to ensure a safe, attractive, and respectful setting for teaching and learning.
